If you look forward to a weekly ramble around the stalls at your local farmers market, there’s some good news on that front; Our producer markets in West Cork have reopened and Cork artisan food producers are busy planning to make them bigger and better!. How they have been missed for they are our open air living rooms where we all meet, chat, support honest local artisan producers and enjoy food from some of the great food stalls we have in Ireland’s Foodie Capital.  So let’s get out there, #BuyLocal and enjoy the new normal in the fresh air of West Cork!

Macroom Farmers Market

Fresh Fruit and Vegetables at Macroom Farmers Market

Tuesday from 9am-2pm in The Square by the Town Hall, Macroom, County Cork. Shoppers are able to buy fresh local produce and goods such as fruit and vegetables, flowers, honey, jams and a selection of clothes and shoes. Afterwards wander in the grounds of Macroom Castle.

Kinsale Farmers Market

Kinsale farmers market

As you would expect in the Gourmet Town of Kinsale this is a vibrant farmers market with up to 30 stalls covering the full range of locally produced food products, and a number of hot food stalls. Afterwards take in a wonderful walking / eating tour with Kinsale Food Tours or do a brewery tour at Black’s Brewery and Distillery.

Ballincollig Farmer’s Market – Wednesdays from 10am-3pm

The Farmers market is located on the plaza at the front of the Dunnes store’s shopping Centre in Ballincollig. The Ballincollig farmer’s market offers a wide range of locally produced food from all around the county.

In Dunmanway Market Square under the gaze of local hero Sam Maguire. Local produce includes fresh fish, organic meats, honey, eggs, garlic, vegetables, bread and baked goods from Dunmanway’s famous Baking Emporium. Plants (tomato, courgette etc.) available in season.

Mahon Point Farmers’ Market

Thursday mornings from 10am to 2pm is the largest Farmers Market Cork has to offer, bringing together a diverse range of local farmers and artisan food producers in one large weekly market held outside the main entrance of Mahon Point Shopping Centre every.

Clonakilty Market – Fridays  9am–2pm

This market is held in Clonakilty’s lovely Georgian Emmet Square and features fruit & vegetables, baking (including gluten-free), bread, pet food, local crafts, and plants. Afterwards wander to the rewarding Michael Collins Museum on the Square, see the award winning town centre or take the Clonakilty Town Train!

Bantry Market – Every Friday 9:30am–1.00pm

Bantry Farmers Market

This is one of the larger West Cork markets, occupying the central town square and spilling out into the adjoining roads and car parks. Here you can expect to find a wonderful selection of fine food including: Organic fruit & veg, freshly baked breads and cakes, cheese, fish, meats, olives, eggs, honey, preserves, plants, local crafts, pet supplies, bric-a-brac & collectables. The market is at its biggest on the first Friday of every month, known as the Traditional Fair Day this market day is one of the biggest in West Cork where it’s not unusual to find ducks and hens for sale!

In the Fairfield, off Bridge Street, Skibbereen. This is the open air living room of West Cork where locals congregate to buy organic fruit & vegetables, food, baking, cheese, fish, meats, olives, eggs, honey, preserves, plants, local art & crafts, pet & poultry supplies, fresh stone baked pizza, bric-a-brac & collectibles. This is a very busy local market, offering great value and a chance to catch up on the local gossip, with an amazingly wide selection of stalls. Just off the main street in Skibbereen. In addition, the Market is the source of a diverse selection of  quality local art & crafts, and provides a great hunting-ground for collectors of antiques, books and bric-a-brac.

Each Saturday in the Old Market Garden from 9.30am to 1.30pm. See you there!!  All the stalls are back and we are looking forward to seeing you there. We have beautiful Ballycotton Queens (potatoes), local berries and fresh fish from Alan as well as bacon from Nathan. There are also Pancakes & Crepes, coffee, organic foods from Dutch finders foods, and Barry’s bakery, fresh baked pizza and a large range of pasta dishes. A very sociable market with a nice mix of artisan producers and food stalls.
