It was a pleasure to meet Cédric Antoine, at his recently acquired food truck, Bon Appétit, situated in the garden of Kitty Macs bar, in the coastal hamlet of Ring. Cédric is originally from France, he was anxious that his children grew up bilingual, hence the family move to Ireland. Cédric said he thought that the move might have backfired as he found the Irish people spoke so fast it was hard to learn, now the family feels part of the fabric of Irish life.

Cédric comes from a catering background, having owned and managed a restaurant in the south of France for many years, so there is a wealth of experience in the hospitality sector. The new food truck has only just been acquired, Cédric will trade under the name of Bon Appétit, he has new, clear signage to increase his visibility.

Currently Cédric trades from 5.00 pm Thursday, Friday and Saturday and from 4.00 pm on Sunday. The hours will be extended as the season picks up.

Bon Appétit - menu

All food served from the truck is made fresh and produce comes from local suppliers, the mince for the burgers is from Michael O’Neill’s butcher shop in Clonakilty, the striploin is supplied by Coolcower Meats, all chicken products are from Shannonvale Foods. Cédric buys his bread and burger rolls from Scally’s Supervalu in Clonakilty.

The menu is concise but really appetising, when I called to Cédric the special of the day was cod fritters with a sweet chilli sauce, accras de morue. Otherwise the menu offers a beef burger served with cheese, a chicken chorizo burger or a steak sandwich with striploin, onions, mushroom and a pepper sauce. Hot dogs are on the menu along with chicken goujons or a chicken goujon wrap. Bon Appétit offers a kid’s burger or kid’s chicken goujons.

Bon Appétit - menu back

All chips served are hand cut and cooked twice. Anyone with special dietary requirements merely needs to make this known to Cédric as he can offer vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options by request.

Cédric is happy to cater for private functions and gatherings. Kitty Macs Bar is coastal on the Wild Atlantic Way, with a good sized rear garden, so it is a great place to enjoy the fresh food from Bon Appétit.

Cédric can be contacted on 089 983 8114
