Wild Garlic Coffee Shop and Restaurant opened its doors for business last July, in the centrally located town of Dunmanway. The 80 seater, 2nd floor restaurant looks out over the busy and bright town square with its imposing statue of local hero Sam Maguire.
The restaurant was taken over by chef Ann Marie Butler and Pat Kiely, both of whom were associated with the highly regarded O’Connors Seafood Restaurant in Bantry. Ann Marie and Pat are experienced and creative chefs who honed their skills in various restaurants around county Cork and both have an enviable reputation in West Cork. A young baby meant that the couple wanted a better work and life balance, where they could take things at their own pace and enjoy some family downtime.
A great deal of thought has been put into the new venture, where some of the best local West Cork produce has been sourced to create a comprehensive and delicious menu. Ann Marie has crafted a unique menu that still pays homage to the classics, showcasing her classical French training.
The top quality ingredients speak for themselves. The menu is designed around local produce using a daily special board to bring variety and seasonality to customers.
Pat and Ann Marie have a good team around them where nothing is too much trouble. The focus is to build up a strong, local trade where the customer is paramount. Office workers can ring in their order for lunch time so that the food is ready for them either to eat in or take out, reducing pressure on their lunch hour.
A coffee morning runs every Friday 9am-11am. It is via cuidu group which supports mothers and carers. Its aim is to help local people feel secure and set up a support network and of course to make friends. We offer the room free of charge and supply the toys etc for the children.
The coffee shop and restaurant is airy, bright and spacious with lots of quirky pieces creating its own unique ambiance.
Ann Marie and Pat are extremely knowledgeable in relation to special dietary requirements, allergens and cross contamination. Coeliacs, vegans and vegetarians are catered for. Ann Marie’s delicious gluten free baking, sauces and soups are fabulous with wonderful presentation and flavours.
